Waiting for Bush
The week's news at a glance.
Crawford, Texas
The mother of a soldier killed in Iraq began a peace vigil this week near President Bush’s Texas ranch, vowing not to budge until Bush talks to her. “I’m angry,” said Cindy Sheehan, 48, whose son, Casey, was killed in Sadr City last year. “I want the troops home.” After police blocked Sheehan a couple miles from the ranch, she was swarmed by members of the White House press corps eager for a story to cover while Bush vacations. Bush’s national security advisor, Steve Hadley, met with Sheehan, but she wasn’t satisfied. The least Bush could do, the California woman said, was have the courtesy “to talk to somebody whose life he has ruined.”
