Deadly crash
The week's news at a glance.
Telluride, Colo.
Dick Ebersol, a pioneering NBC Sports executive, survived a fiery plane crash in Colorado this week, but his 14-year-old son, Teddy, was killed. The chartered jet—which was carrying Ebersol, two of his three sons, and three crew members—was taking off in light snow near the ski resort town of Telluride. Ebersol’s wife, actress Susan Saint James, was not aboard. The plane skidded off the runway and exploded. The pilot and flight attendant were killed, while the co-pilot was badly injured. Ebersol, 57, and his son Charles, 21, were also hurt, but managed to climb free. Charles begged rescuers to find his brother, saying, “Can you please help get him out?” Teddy Ebersol’s body was found a day later, pinned under the wreckage.
