California’s Austrian-born governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, said this week that he would “absolutely” want to run for president if a constitutional amendment were approved to make him eligible for the job. The Constitution bars immigrants from becoming president, but Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, has proposed an amendment to allow anyone who has been a citizen for 20 years to run. Schwarzenegger, a movie star who burst into politics last year, had earlier deflected questions about his political ambitions, but changed his tune during an appearance on CBS’ 60 Minutes. “Why not?” he said. “Anyone with my way of thinking, you always shoot for the top.”
