Massacre lawsuit

Sarajevo
Relatives of the 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys who were massacred by the Serbs in Sarajevo in 1995 said this week that they planned to sue the U.N. and the Netherlands. The Bosnian city of Sarajevo had been declared a U.N. “safe zone” and was under the protection of Dutch peacekeeping troops, but the Dutch stood by as Bosnian Serb paramilitaries rounded up the entire male Muslim population and marched them off to be shot. It was the worst single atrocity in the Yugoslav wars, and a severe blow to U.N. credibility. Relatives of the victims said they would seek $500 million in compensation.
