'Troops Out!' call from leading Tory think tank INTEREST RATES HELD AT 0.5 PER CENT The Bank of England has held interest rates at 0.5 per cent. The Monetary Policy Committee also said it would continue its £200bn quantitative easing programme. The moves come despite the rate of inflation hitting 3.1 per cent in July - far above the Bank's target of 2 per cent. And analysts are predicting that rates will stay at 0.5 per cent until at least mid-2011. CAPELLO TO QUIT IN 2012England manager Fabio Capello has announced that he will step down after the Euro 2012 championships and retire. The Italian, who will be 66 when the tournament ends, said he would be "too old" to continue in the job and was looking forward to "life as a pensioner". VITAMIN PILL COULD DELAY ALZHEIMERSResearchers at Oxford University have carried out the first trial which successfully modified a neurodegenerative disease, and say it offers a "glimmer of hope" for the future. Elderly people with mild cognitive impairment were given a powerful cocktail of B vitamins for two years. On average their brains shrank 30 per cent less than predicted. Terry Pratchett backs right-to-die campaign RUSSIA SUICIDE BOMB KILLS 16 At least 16 people have been killed and 114 people injured after a a suicide car bomb blew up at a market in the southern Russian city of Vladikavkaz. Russia is fighting a violent civil war in its Muslim-majority North Caucasus republics against Islamist groups. The latest attack follows suicide attacks on the Moscow Metro in March, which killed 38. SKY TV PRESENTER BURLEY 'A BIT DIM'Sky News presenter Kay Burley has been called "a bit dim" live on air by Labour MP Chris Bryant during an interview. Burley asked him to back up his assertion that phone hacking was rife in the media. Bryant cited a report by the Information Commissioner. Burley replied: "You are content to say that on TV." Bryant shot back: "I have just said that. You seem to be a bit dim, if you don't mind me saying so." WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE BOOK FOR SALE A copy of John James Audubon's lavishly-illustrated Birds of America, which set the record for the highest price ever paid for a book when a copy sold for £5.7m ten years ago, is up for auction at Sotheby's in the same sale as a First Folio of Shakespeare and private letters by Elizabeth I. One expert said it was the most remarkable auction in his lifetime. Iran to release one american hikerIran has said it will release Sarah Shourd, one of the three American hikers it has held since July 2009 on Saturday. Shourd, 31, Shane Bauer, 27, and Josh Fattal, 27, were arrested while hiking in northern Iraq. Although they have never been charged, Iran accused them of crossing the border illegally and of having links to US intelligence.
