Egyptian troops have opened fire on supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi as they marched towards the Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo today. Tensions are running high after Morsi was deposed and Egyptian police began rounding up senior Muslim Brotherhood members.

2. JON VENABLES TO GET ANOTHER NEW IDENTITY
The parents of James Bulger say they are "filled with terror" at the thought that Jon Venables, one of the two men who abducted and killed the toddler, is to be released from jail again and given another new identity. Venables was re-jailed in 2010 for possessing child abuse images on his computer. He has now been granted parole.

3. MPS' UNANIMOUS VOTE FOR EU POLL
MPs have voted unanimously to hold a European Union referendum before 2017 in a move cheered by hundreds of Tories in the House of Commons today. Not a single MP opposed the new EU Referendum Bill, which had the overwhelming support of Conservatives and was even backed by a few Labour members, the Daily Telegraph says.
4. LABOUR CALLS IN COPS OVER FALKIRK
Labour has handed over a dossier to police amid allegations the union, Unite, tried to rig the selection of the party's candidate to fight the Falkirk by-election. The head of Unite, Len McCluskey today accused the party of a "smear" campaign, following the resignation of Tom Watson, Labour's general election campaign co-ordinator.

5. WIMBLEDON: DJOKOVIC WINS THRILLER
Novak Djokovic beat Juan Martin del Potro in a thrilling Wimbledon semi-final, overcoming the Argentine after a bruising four hours and 44 minutes. Top seed Djokovic and eighth seed Del Potro exchanged the first two sets before Djokovic won the third. But Del Potro hit back in the fourth-set tie-break to force a deciding set, which Djokovic won to secure a 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 victory.
6. MADDIE: POLICE ASK FOR MEDIA RESTRAINT
British detectives who announced yesterday they are targeting 38 people "of interest" in their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are preparing to base themselves in Portugal once the authorities there give approval. Scotland Yard has asked for media restraint during what is seen as a last chance to solve the case.
7. POPE 'CLEARS' JOHN PAUL FOR SAINTHOOD
Pope Francis has cleared John Paul II for sainthood, approving a miracle attributed to his intercession. Francis also decided today to canonise another pope, John XXIII, even though there has been no second miracle attributed to his intercession. The Vatican said Francis approved a decision by cardinals and bishops.

8. MPS 'USE CHILDREN TO CLAIM EXPENSES'
Some MPs have made more than £10,000 a year claiming expenses on behalf of their children, the Daily Telegraph reports. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has agreed the expenses to cover renting bigger properties and children's travel. The revelations comes as Ipsa looks set to recommend a controversial pay rise for MPs.

9. JESSIE J IS LEAVING THE VOICE
Singer Jessie J has announced she is to leave BBC One's The Voice after serving as a coach for two series. The 25-year-old made the announcement on Twitter saying she wanted to concentrate on promoting her new album and touring around the world. "I've absolutely loved my time on The Voice," she said.
