1. IRAQ: OBAMA SENDS 300 ‘MILITARY ADVISERS’

Barack Obama last night announced he is sending 300 “military advisers” to Iraq and said the US was prepared for “targeted and precise military action", but he insisted he would not send ground troops. In Iraq, Isis rebels are engaged in fierce battles for the Baiji oil refinery and Tal Afar airport.
