1. CEREMONIES TO MARK WW1 ANNIVERSARY
Ceremonies have been taking place in the UK and Europe today to mark one hundred years since Britain entered the First World War. The Prince of Wales and David Cameron attended a service in Glasgow, while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in Belgium with many heads of state. There will be a candlelit vigil in Westminster Abbey.

2. STAGE INVASION AS GLASGOW GAMES CLOSE
Australian steeplechase runner Genevieve LaCaze surprised organisers at the closing ceremony for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last night by invading the stage to dance on her own while entertainer Kylie Minogue changed her costume. LaCaze lasted about a minute before security guards led her off.

3. BRITISH NATIONAL 'KILLED IN GAZA'
A British national has reportedly been killed in the Rafah district of Gaza, an area which was not covered by a seven-hour humanitarian ceasefire because Israeli troops were still involved in clashes there. The Foreign Office said it was "urgently looking into" the reports. The truce in other parts of Gaza was to allow aid and give respite to civilians.
4. GOOGLE REPORTS EMAIL SEX OFFENDER
A man who sent an email containing child pornography was reported to the authorities by Google, it has been reported. Convicted sex offender John Henry Skillern of Houston, Texas, was arrested after the search giant contacted child protection services. Google has refused to say if it searches Gmail accounts for illegal activity.
5. EBOLA WORRY AFTER GATWICK DEATH
A woman who collapsed at Gatwick airport, dying later at a nearby hospital, after flying in from West Africa has tested negative for the deadly Ebola virus after her death prompted doctors to isolate the plane and crew. More than 700 people have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia from the virus.

6. UKRAINE: RUSSIA HOLDS MILITARY EXERCISES
Russia is to hold military exercises involving fighter jets, helicopters and bombers near the Ukraine border this week. The news comes as Ukraine government forces claim the upper hand in the war with pro-Russia rebels and close in on Luhansk and Donetsk. Residents in the cities are said to be stockpiling food ahead of a likely siege.
7. HSBC SEES 12% FALL IN PROFITS
HSBC's pre-tax profits for the first six months of 2014 have fallen 12%. The bank made $12.34bn in the first half of this year, compared to $14.07bn in 2013. The bank has also set aside $234m for "customer redress programmes", covering the cost of mis-sold PPI. Despite the figures HSBC shares rose more than 1.5% in London.
8. CHINA EARTHQUAKE TOPPLES 12,000 HOMES
At least 381 people have been killed, with more than 1,800 others injured, after an earthquake in southwest China toppled an estimated 12,000 homes. The quake, in Ludian county, had its epicentre in the town of Longtoushan. Many of the homes which collapsed were said to be old, and made of brick.
9. SURROGATE COUPLE DENY REJECTING BABY
The Australian couple who allegedly refused to take a child from a surrogate mother in Thailand because he had Down's syndrome have denied any knowledge of the baby. The surrogate had twins and the couple say they were only told about the boy's healthy sister, who they took back to Australia. The Thai surrogate claims they rejected him.
10. HOT TICKET: NEW IRAQI DRAMA
Rashid Razaq's black comedy The Nightmares of Carlos Fuentes has opened at the Arcola Theatre, London. An Iraqi refugee seeks a new life and identity in Britain, but his nightmarish past proves hard to escape. Until 16 August. "Witty" and “devastating", says The Independent.
