1. EGYPT BOMBS I.S TARGETS IN LIBYA

Egypt has bombed Islamic State (IS) targets in Libya after the Sunni extremist group posted a video purporting to show the beheading of 21 Egyptian Copts, impoverished labourers taken prisoner because of their Christianity. This is the first time Egypt has publicly acknowledged carrying out air strikes in Libya.

2. MI5 ACCUSED OVER NI BOYS’ HOME ABUSE

MI5 is facing allegations that it covered up abuse at a children’s home in Northern Ireland. Alleged victims of abuse at the Kincora Boys’ Home are taking legal action to force an inquiry. They claim the cover-up lasted for decades and MI5 blocked police inquiries to protect its intelligence-gathering operation.

3. DENMARK SHOOTINGS SUSPECT: VIOLENT PAST

The gunman killed by police after murdering two people, at a debate on free speech in a café and at a synagogue, in Copenhagen on Saturday has been named by Danish media as Omar el-Hussein, a 22-year-old with a history of violence and gang crime. He was wanted by police for a brutal 2013 stabbing.

4. LOUIS JOURDAN DIES IN LA AT AGE OF 93

Marseilles-born actor Louis Jourdan has died at his home in LA at the age of 93. The French star was best known for his role in Gigi, one of the biggest films of the 1950s. The embodiment of French elegance (he once called himself a “French cliché”) Jourdan played the villain in the 1983 Bond film Octopussy.

5. SKUNK CANNABIS LINKED TO PSYCHOSIS

A study by King’s College London has found that smokers of potent ‘skunk’ cannabis run three times the risk of developing psychosis than non-users. Those who use the drug every day run five times the risk. The study of 780 people found that those who smoke milder hash were not at increased risk of psychosis.

6. KASPERSKY: ONLINE GANG STEALS $1BN

Internet security firm Kaspersky Lab has estimated that a gang with members in Russia, Ukraine and China has stolen $1bn (£648m) online since 2013 - and is still active. The company worked with Interpol and Europol on its investigation. The gang steals directly from banks and does not target “end users”.

7. SOUTH EAST RAIL ‘MOST DELAYED’

People who commute into London from the south-east are the rail passengers most likely to be delayed, according to consumer group Which? They were also the most likely to be unhappy with their train operator, a poll of 7,309 people found. Southern had the worst score of any train firm, with 39% of users reporting delays

8. SOFTWARE USED TO ‘FIND ANNE BOLEYN’

Researchers in California have used facial recognition software to identify a late-16th century portrait as being of Anne Boleyn, ill-fated wife of Henry VIII. They found a match between the only uncontested image of Boleyn and a portrait in Bradford. Most images of Boleyn were destroyed after her execution.

After the success of Tesco's first tablet last year, the supermarket chain is back with the Hudl 2, a new device that promises to be bigger and faster, but just as affordable as it was before. But is it any good? Most reviewers are broadly positive about the new device. 10. BABY P'S MOTHER BACK IN JAIL

Tracey Connelly, the mother of the boy who became known as Baby P, is back in jail after allegedly selling pornographic images of herself. She was released on bail in 2013 and given a new identity after serving five years of an indefinite jail sentence for allowing 17-month-old Peter Connelly to be tortured to death. She has now been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of her release.
