1. DRAMATIC FRESH FIFA EVIDENCE EMERGES
Fresh evidence of Fifa corruption has emerged. According to The Sunday Times, rival bidder Morocco actually won the vote to host the 2010 World Cup before it was rigged in South Africa’s favour. The BBC says that former vice-president Jack Warner used a Fifa payment, intended to be used for a Caribbean diaspora legacy programme, for cash withdrawals, personal loans and to launder money.
2. TORY MPS FORM ANTI-EU GROUP
More than 50 Tory MPs are plotting to lead the campaign to leave the European Union, says the Sunday Telegraph. Members of the new campaign group, Conservatives for Britain, say that unless David Cameron achieves truly radical reform, they will urge the British public to vote to withdraw from the EU in the referendum that is due to be held by 2017.
3. MO FARAH ‘ANGRY’ OVER SUSPICIONS
Mo Farah says he is angry and frustrated his name had been “dragged through the mud” after his coach, Alberto Salazar, was accused of involvement in doping. The British Olympic champion insists he will stick with the American until he sees clear evidence against him. He said it’s “not fair” that his own “reputation is getting ruined”.

4. 500,000 REFUGEES GATHER IN LIBYA
As many as half a million refugees are gathering in Libya to attempt a perilous crossing to Europe on the deadly boats that have killed thousands already. The Royal Marines on HMS Bulwark are bracing themselves to rescue a further 3,000. Captain Nick Cooke-Priest said: “Indications are that there are 450,000 to 500,000 migrants in Libya who are waiting at the border.”
5. HONOURS: ARISE SIR LENNY HENRY
Lenny Henry will be knighted in the Queen’s birthday honours next weekend. The 56-year-old comedian, who helped set up Comic Relief, will be honoured for services to charity and comedy. The total raised by Red Nose Day hit £1bn this year. His full name is Lenworth Henry but he is expected to be addressed as “Sir Lenny”.
6. EXPERT SAYS ALIENS ‘WILL BE ROBOTS’
If we find aliens they will be machines, says the astronomer royal. Professor Lord Rees told the Cheltenham Science Festival that mankind’s contact with aliens will be through robots. “If you were to detect a SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) signal it would be far more likely that it would be from a machine and not an organic creature,” he said.
7. DOORMAN HURT IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING
A doorman has been gunned down outside a Newcastle nightclub in a drive-by shooting. The 24-year-old victim was shot by a gunman on a motorbike outside the Tup Tup Palace nightclub in the city centre at 10.30pm last night. The extent of his injuries are not known. Witnesses described seeing a black-clad motorcyclist fire at the doorman.
8. BARCELONA WIN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Barcelona won their third Champions League in six years last night. In a thrilling encounter, Juventus’s brave resistance was no match for Barca’s attacking brilliance at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Barcelona have now been crowned European champions five times, with a victory that completes a treble for Luis Enrique's side this campaign.
9. HEALTH WARNING OVER BABIES IN BED
Charity campaigners are issuing a new warning after three-week-old baby was found dead after being taken into bed by his mother. The latest figures show 258 children a year under the age of one, equivalent to five babies a week, die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, in around half of those cases, the baby had been sleeping in an unsafe place.
10. QUEEN BEE SYNDROME 'A MYTH'
Queen bee syndrome, under which women who get to the top of their profession keep other women in their place, is a myth, according to new research. The study by researchers at Columbia Business School in New York suggests the real reason for a shortage of women in top positions is still men’s determination to retain control.
