Adult social care has been described as the “Cinderella service” of the UK’s welfare system. Now, Andy Burnham has vowed to finally “face it and fix it”. The new PM wants to overhaul social care so it “operates on the NHS principle” and is free at the point of need. But Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has asked him to “rule out any tax rises” and instead reduce current spending to fund the reform.
