Kemi Badenoch kicked off the Conservatives’ annual conference with a pledge to scrap the £100,000 salary cap on government-funded childcare. Families currently lose their entitlement of up to 30 hours a week of term-time childcare and access to the Tax-Free Childcare scheme if either parent crosses that earnings threshold. People shouldn’t be “punished for working harder”, the Tory leader told the BBC.
