Today’s front pages: Williamson ‘farce’ and Hither Green verdict
A round up of the headlines from UK newspapers on 3 May
The digital front pages are abuzz with the fallout of yesterday’s local elections, but the results came in a little too late to make this morning’s print headlines.
Instead, several chose to follow the saga of Gavin Williamson, sacked as defence secretary for alleging leaking details of a Cabinet security meeting but passionately protesting his innocence.
The Daily Telegraph said that Number 10’s handling of the incident had become a “farce”, as it emerged that the meeting was not classified, and that earlier intimations that Williamson could face prosecution for breaching the Official Secrets Act were therefore incorrect.

Others gave their front pages to the legal vindication of Richard Osborn-Brooks, the 79-year-old who fatally stabbed a burglar who broke into his Hither Green home, with Metro’s headline drawn from his reported words to the intruder: “Get out or you will be sorry…”
