Woman marries cat to stop landlords from separating them
And other stories from the stranger side of life

A woman married her pet cat to prevent future landlords from separating them. Deborah Hodge, from Sidcup, south east London, claimed she had previously been forced to rehome three animals by landlords who did not allow pets in their properties. To keep hold of her current cat, five-year-old India, she held a civil ceremony to tie the knot. Hodge wore a tuxedo while India donned a bow tie and cape for the ceremony, which was conducted by a friend who is legally ordained, reported the Daily Star.

Farmer finds ancient deity in Gaza
A farmer discovered a stone statue of an ancient goddess of beauty, love and war in the Gaza Strip. The Canaanite deity, Anat, dates back 4,500 years to the late Bronze Age, Palestinian archaeologists told the BBC. The statue of Anat is now on display in Qasr al-Basha, a historic building that acts as one of Gaza’s few museums. Jamal Abu Rida, of the Hamas-run Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, said the discovery proves that Palestine “has civilisation and history, and no-one can deny or falsify this history”.
