The Imperial College London academic has been a vocal proponent of social distancing yet repeatedly allowed his married lover to visit his London home.
Meanwhile, UK and US intelligence agencies have warned other medical researchers about an increase in cyberattacks on facilities working on a coronavirus vaccine. Intelligence officials have also quashed claims that Covid-19 was created in a lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak - although many conspiracy theorists remain unconvinced.

Leaked documents revealed the proposals being considered by the government for getting the UK back to work, as Chancellor Rishi Sunak warned that the cost of the coronavirus wage-subsidy scheme is “unsustainable”.
Over in the US, President Donald Trump was forced to deny links to two Americans reported to have been arrested for their part in an “inept” bid to launch a coup against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
One of the detained Americans had provided security for Trump’s rallies in 2018, but the president insists that the alleged military operation in Venezuela last Sunday “had nothing to do with our government”.
