Following several days of effort by rescue teams searching the Java Sea, 30 bodies have been recovered from AirAsia Flight 8501, out of a total 162 passengers on board. Several of the bodies were discovered strapped into their seats.

The initial recovery effort, which represents the combined work of several countries, was delayed by both darkness and poor weather conditions on the Java Sea. The plane's fuselage has not yet been located, but the search will continue, with a focus on underwater detection.
