The New York City premiere of The Interview has been canceled, following the release of a message by the Sony hackers on Tuesday morning threatening terrorist attacks on theaters showing the movie.

The news was confirmed to Variety Tuesday night by a spokesperson from Landmark's Sunshine Cinema, where the premiere was to be held Thursday. Earlier in the day, the Carmike Cinemas chain said their theaters would not show the film, and stars Seth Rogen and James Franco canceled upcoming promotional appearances.
