Officer Darren Wilson's lawyers released a statement on behalf of their client after learning he was not indicted in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The statement said that Wilson "followed his training and followed the law" when he shot and killed Brown on Aug. 9. It continued:

In a case of this magnitude, a team of prosecutors rightfully presented evidence to this St. Louis County grand jury. This group of citizens, drawn at random from the community, listened to witnesses and heard all the evidence in the case. Based on the evidence and witness testimony, the grand jury collectively determined there was no basis for criminal charges against Officer Wilson. [Wilson statement, via St. Louis Post-Dispatch]

Wilson also thanked "those who stood by his side throughout the process." His attorney, Neil Bruntrager, would not comment on whether Wilson plans on resigning from the Ferguson Police Department. Officials said that if Wilson was not indicted, there would be no reason to fire him.
