The former Louisiana governor, convicted for corruption in 2001, is running for a seat in the state's sixth congressional district. (Surprisingly, he has a pretty good shot of making it to the runoff, though probably not to Congress itself.)
When he occupied the governor's mansion, Edwards was famous for lines like, "The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy." So he must have delighted supporters this morning when he told a crowd to "bring your wife, or someone else's wife" to his election party. But then, after a pause, the former governor displayed some newfound caution, hedging, "But not to my function. Leave her in the car."
