NCAA drops Penn State punishments handed down over child abuse scandal
The NCAA on Monday announced it was restoring Penn State's football bowl eligibility and full slate of scholarships, citing the school's "significant progress" toward meeting a higher standard of ethics. The Nittany Lions will be eligible to play in a bowl game this year, while the scholarships will kick in next season.
The punishments stemmed from the university's woeful handling of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. Penn State was also fined $60 million for the scandal, though the NCAA said that Pennsylvania could keep that money.
