Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday lamented the deteriorating situation in Iraq and warned that if the U.S. doesn't act soon, the crisis could wind up as the precursor to a future terror attack.
"The seeds of 9/11 are being planted all over Iraq and Syria," Graham said on Face the Nation, adding that, "They plan to drive us out of the Mideast by attacking us here at home."
In a separate Sunday interview with CNN, Graham said Iraq and Syria would become a "staging area for the next 9/11 if we don't do anything about it." And in a sign of how dire he believes the situation has become, Graham said the U.S. would need to work with Iran — whom he once called "the most thuggish people in the whole world" — to restore order to Iraq. --Jon Terbush
