After months of positive vibes from his fellow Republicans, resulting in high approval ratings compared with the rest of the nascent 2016 presidential field, Mitt Romney is experiencing some heavy blowback now that he has indicated he is actually serious about running for president. Politico reports that GOP elites gathering in California for an upcoming Republican National Committee summit are very skeptical about another run:
“He had a great opportunity last time and I personally want a fresh face,” said Roger Villere, the Louisiana Republican Party chairman. “What’s going to be different this time?”“I have not detected a groundswell of support for him,” added Rob Gleason, the Pennsylvania GOP chairman. [Politico]
Romney will seek to quell those doubts when he addresses the summit later tonight.
