Lawyer Amal Clooney will travel to Egypt to push for jailed Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy's release, according to CTV News.
Clooney reportedly sent a letter to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi on Saturday, which was obtained by CTV News, requesting an in-person sit-down to discuss Fahmy's case. Fahmy was arrested on charges of aiding the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been labeled a terrorist organization by el-Sissi, along with Egyptian producer Baher Mohammed and Australian journalist Peter Greste.
Greste was recently deported to Australia, raising hopes that Fahmy's release was also imminent. But a similar deportation has not yet materialized, and Clooney, whose London firm represents Fahmy, wrote in her letter that she would travel to the country to discuss "the prospects for his release."
