Costa Concordia captain sentenced to 16 years for fatal shipwreck

An Italian court on Wednesday found Francesco Schettino guilty of manslaughter over the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster that left 32 people dead. The former captain was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Investigators argued Schettino caused the crash by bringing the enormous cruise ship too close to land, and accused him of abandoning the vessel before evacuating all passengers from it.
