FIFA confirms Qatar's 2022 World Cup will wrap up in December

FIFA on Thursday announced that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will not take place in the summer, as usual, but will instead conclude on Dec. 18.
The decision had long been expected given that summer temperatures in Qatar spike to more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Last month, a FIFA committee recommended playing the games in November and December to mitigate the climate concerns.
However, the extreme heat is just one of many reasons critics believe the 2022 World Cup will be a horrendous disaster. A report last March estimated that 4,000 migrant workers would die on World Cup construction projects, and whistleblowers claimed Qatar was using "state-sponsored slavery" via North Korea to finish building on time.
