This March was the West Coast's hottest on record

Last month, many western cities saw the hottest March on record. Los Angeles and San Diego, for example, each had at least five days where the temperature reached 90 degrees or higher.

San Diego, meanwhile, has experienced 17 warmer-than normal months in a row, The Associated Press reports.

"All of the West Coast... [has] seen record-breaking temperatures this winter, and March just continued this same theme," National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Boldt told AP. Boldt explained that a high pressure ridge has blanketed the western U.S., blocking storms and allowing for more sun.

The assessment comes as California continues to struggle through a drought, and Gov. Jerry Brown (D) has introduced mandatory water restrictions for the state.
