The North Charleston police officer who shot to death an unarmed black man has been fired, the town's mayor said in a press conference Wednesday.
One day prior, the officer, Michael Slager, was charged with murder shortly after a video emerged contradicting his description of the events surrounding the death of Walter Scott. Captured by a bystander, the video showed Slager shooting eight times at Scott's back.
In response to the incident, Mayor Keith Summey said he ordered more body cameras to ensure every officer on the street will be wearing one in the future.
