Marco Rubio is running for president

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Monday confirmed he is running for president, saying in a conference call with donors he feels "uniquely qualified" to represent the GOP, according to The Associated Press. Rubio is scheduled to hold a rally Monday afternoon in Miami his team billed as a "big announcement," so the call with donors merely confirmed what had already been widely expected.

Rubio joins Senators Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rand Paul (Ky.) as the only major Republicans in the race to date. The announcement comes one day after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination.
