It's been a year since Boko Haram kidnapped 276 schoolgirls. Most of them are still missing.

When 276 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped by militants brandishing guns, the outraged world took to Twitter to show indignation with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls. That was a year ago.

Except for some who managed to escape, 219 girls aged between 16 and 18 at the time of the abduction are still missing.

People have reported sightings of the missing girls, though none have been confirmed. According to the BBC, Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group responsible for the kidnappings, says that the girls have converted to Islam and have been married off.

Immediately after the kidnappings took place, the Nigerian government sought the assistance of several nations, including the U.S., to help find the girls. But frustration has continued to mount as little information regarding the search has been released.
