The trailer for Jem and the Holograms is here, and the truly outrageous part is just how different the movie is from the awesomely '80s cartoon. We're introduced to Jerrica Benton (Aubrey Peeples) — who becomes a star after her sister Kimber (Stefanie Scott) secretly records her singing and posts the video to YouTube — as well as her bandmates, a loathsome record executive, and a love interest, Rio (Ryan Guzman). Amazingly, we never get a glimpse of her computer Synergy, rival band the Misfits, or any holograms. Instead of embracing the magic of the cartoon, the movie goes in a completely different and modern direction, taking a look at the price of fame during the age of social media. The original Jem was all about excitement, adventure, and lots and lots of pink — maybe we'll see some of that in the next trailer? —Catherine Garcia
