Bill Simmons just landed a huge new job at HBO

Bill Simmons — the former sports columnist and editor-in-chief of Grantland, who was dropped by ESPN in May — has lined up his next high-profile gig. Today, HBO announced an exclusive, ambitious cross-platform partnership with Simmons. Simmons' new duties will include a gig as the host of a new weekly sports and culture-focused talk show, as well as a mandate to produce shows, documentaries, features, and video podcasts for the network.
Simmons confirmed the news with a simple tweet:
The topic of Simmons' new show will vary from week to week, but his previous comments certainly indicate that he won't be afraid to take potshots at his former employer. "I am not afraid to leave [ESPN]," he wrote in 2011. "If it happens, I will kill myself trying to haunt them somewhere else."
