Rick Perry not concerned about lack of funds: 'My whole life I've been short of money'

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he isn't worried about his campaign's dwindling funds because frankly, he's used to it.

"My whole life I've been short of money, as probably most people in this country have as well," he told reporters Wednesday. "I know how to deal with shortage of money. You cut spending and you keep a small footprint. This is a challenge that happens in a lot of places in time." Earlier this month, Perry had to stop paying members of his staff, and even though some paychecks have been cut again, he lost his Iowa chairman. Because there are so many Republicans in the race — and people haven't forgotten Perry's gaffes from his 2012 presidential bid — he's not bringing in a lot of donors or attention, The Associated Press reports.

There's still some good news for the former Texas governor: Super PACs that support him have raised nearly $17 million, and while they can't coordinate their efforts directly with the Perry campaign, they have staff in Iowa who are crafting ads both in and out of the state.
