Jerry Bance was always going to be a long shot to win a Toronto-area seat in Canada's Parliament in October elections, but those chances shrank to zero on Monday when his party, the ruling Conservatives, dropped him and another parliamentary candidate after vulgar videos of them emerged. Fellow Toronto-area Conservative candidate Tim Dutaud, a real estate agent, was hoisted by his own petard: videos of offensive prank calls he made then posted to YouTube.
Bance, who owns an appliance-repair business, was caught by the Canadian Broadcasting System, which filmed him in 2012 as part of a hidden-camera look at his industry for its show Marketplace. In the video, Bance is captured urinating into a coffee mug while his customer is in the next room, then dumping the contents of the mug in the sink and quickly rinsing the cup. "I deeply regret my actions on that day," Bance said in a statement. "I take great pride in my work and the footage from that day does not reflect who I am as a professional or a person."
