Ben Carson wants to know how Donald Trump will enforce his immigration plan
While speaking to the Commonwealth Club of California on Tuesday, Ben Carson said he isn't sure how fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's proposal to deport the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States could ever pan out.
"Where you going to send them?" he asked. The retired neurosurgeon said mass deportation is expensive, impractical, and would hurt certain industries, like agriculture, The Associated Press reports. During an event lasting 75 minutes, Carson said he would secure the border, but also give guest-worker status to undocumented immigrants so they can pay taxes and live in the open.
His demeanor resonated with unaffiliated voter Scott Russell, who told AP that Carson has charisma and a positive outlook. "He wasn't trying to attack other candidates or trying to say negative things," the venture capitalist said. "I like people who describe their policies, but don't spend their minutes trying to attack others."
