Three days after the Taliban captured the city of Kunduz, Afghan government forces are back in control of several areas, an Afghan special forces commander told Al Jazeera.
On Monday, Taliban fighters attacked the city at dawn, releasing prisoners and seizing key buildings in the group's biggest victory since 2001. The commander told Al Jazeera that the Taliban left the city center on Tuesday night after a NATO airstrike obliterated their ranks. Government forces are trying to gain control over the entire city, but face resistance from residential areas that are still held by the Taliban.
