The State Department confirmed this week that Secretary of State John Kerry, like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, sometimes uses a private email account for official government business.

Kerry "primarily" uses his official state.gov email account, State Department spokesman John Kirby said, and even when he doesn't, Kerry "takes steps to ensure that his records are appropriately captured, regardless of their origin." Limited use of a personal email account is allowed under the department's rules.
