LCD Soundsystem announces new album, full tour
Just five years after retiring with an instantly sold out, instantly legendary farewell concert at Madison Square Garden, LCD Soundsystem is reuniting to record a brand-new album, with a full tour to follow.
In a lengthy post on the official LCD Soundsystem website, frontman James Murphy explained the decision, and apologized to fans who felt "betrayed" because LCD Soundsystem is coming back so soon after such a splashy exit. "If you cared a lot about our band, and you put a lot of yourself into that moment (or anything about us you chose), and you feel betrayed now, then I completely understand that," he wrote.
But the apology also came with some much-needed clarification about the full extent of the reunion plans. "We're not just playing Coachella. We're playing all over," Murphy wrote. "We're not just having some reunion tour. We're releasing a record (sometime this year — still working on it, actually), so this isn't a victory lap or anything, which wouldn't be of much interest to us."
