Britain suffered another huge loss Thursday, after it was announced actor Alan Rickman had died from cancer at age 69. Rickman was perhaps best known for portraying villain-cum-hero Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series, based on the iconic novels by J.K. Rowling.
When Rickman finished production on the final Harry Potter film in 2011, he wrote the following letter in London-based Empire magazine to say goodbye to Severus Snape, thank Rowling for creating the character, and reflect on the decade he spent in the Harry Potter world:
The story of Severus Snape did, in fact need a great storyteller — and the world thanks Alan Rickman for bringing it to life.
