Florida State and Jameis Winston's accuser settle for $950K
Florida State University settled a lawsuit Monday with the former student who had accused star quarterback Jameis Winston of rape in 2012, USA Today reports. More than a year after the lawsuit was filed, the university will pay Erica Kinsman $950,000 and commit to five years of prevention, awareness, and training programs.
The settlement is reportedly the largest ever payout for Title IX claims relating to a school's indifference to a student's sexual assault.
Kinsman, who left FSU in 2013 when the case she had filed went public, alleged FSU covered up an investigation of her accusations in order to protect Winston and keep him on the football team. A student committee later found Winston, who now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, not responsible for sexual misconduct in a university hearing.

"I will always be disappointed that I had to leave the school I dreamed of attending since I was little," Kinsman said in a statement. "I am happy that FSU has committed to continue making changes in order to ensure a safer environment for all students."
