Congress is already planning next year's inauguration festivities

Members of Congress may not agree on who should be sworn into the presidency this time next year, but they do agree it needs to involve a huge party. The Senate adopted a resolution to establish a Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies on Jan. 20 — exactly one year before the inauguration happens — and the House passed it on Wednesday.

The committee will consist of "3 Senators and 3 Members of the House of Representatives, to be appointed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives," and it is "authorized to make the necessary arrangements for the inauguration," including accepting "gifts and donations of goods and services to carry out its responsibilities."

The last inaugural festivities, in 2013, included an infamously lip-synced performance of the national anthem from Beyoncé, as well as speeches, a parade, and several inaugural balls.
