Victoria McGrath, a Northeastern University college student who survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, died over the weekend after the Ferrari she was in crashed in Dubai. She was 23.
McGrath's roommate, 23-year-old Priscilla Perez Torres, and two others also died when the car hit a pole, The Boston Globe reports. Torres's cousin, Javier Torres, said the women were headed to Bali for spring break. They both were set to graduate from Northeastern in May.
Five minutes before the first bomb went off at the Boston Marathon, McGrath made her way to the finish line to cheer on a friend. After the first blast, a bystander wrapped her leg in a tourniquet, and a photograph was snapped of McGrath as firefighter James Plourde carried her to safety. "It's been said that I helped to save her life, but the truth is Victoria saved my life after the Marathon as her love, support, and friendship helped myself and my family deal with the acts of 4/15/13," Plourde said in a statement.
