Majority of GOP voters on Tuesday comfortable with Trump-Clinton election

Majority of GOP in 5 states fine with Clinton-Trump matchup

Tuesday night is shaping up to be a good one for the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns, each of which has already scored a decisive victory in the winner-take-all Florida primaries, and Clinton also won North Carolina. That's just fine with a majority of Republican voters in Tuesday's five states, according to early exit polls. In each state — Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, and North Carolina — at least 53 percent of Republican voters, and 57 percent of voters in all five states, said they are satisfied with a Trump vs. Clinton general election; 37 percent said they would seriously consider voting for a third-party candidate.

The most enthusiastic Trump-Clinton state was Florida, where 60 percent were fine with that matchup, while the least enthusiastic was Missouri, where 42 percent said they might vote for someone other than Trump. Interestingly, only 91 percent of Trump supporters said they would be comfortable with a Trump-Clinton election — and 6 percent said they would seriously consider a third-party candidate.
