Bridget Jones is single and pregnant in the first trailer for Bridget Jones's Baby

A lot can change in 12 years. 2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason ended with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) proposing to Bridget (Rene Zellweger), setting the star-crossed lovers up for a lifetime of wedded bliss.

But the new trailer for Bridget Jones's Baby, the long-delayed third installment in the series, complicates that happily ever after with a whole new set of challenges: Bridget and Darcy are separated, and Bridget is pregnant, and unsure whether the father is Mark or a hunky new suitor played by Patrick Dempsey:

It may seem stressful, but it's an altogether cheerier set of problems than Helen Fielding's third Bridget Jones novel, in which Mark Darcy had long since died, leaving Bridget a single mother of two. Bridget may be, as the inevitable trailer song indicates, all by herself — but it doesn't look like she's hurting for new misadventures.

Bridget Jones's Baby is due in September.
