The 'Bronx cheer' for Ted Cruz killed his momentum, says Fox News' Charles Krauthammer
On Thursday's Kelly File, Megyn Kelly and regular Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer took a look at the big day of campaigning in Fox News' home turf, New York City. Kelly started out with the rough reception Ted Cruz got in the Bronx. "New Yorkers are just so colorful — I mean, they just put it all out there," she said, "and it doesn't feel like they're feeling the Cruz train right now." "No, I think that's the definition of a Bronx cheer, the reception he got in the Bronx," Krauthammer said, suggesting that Cruz have a hard talk with the advance team that picked the Bronx as a promising campaign stop. And it will bruise more than just Cruz's ego, he added.
"The problem with Cruz is, he's coming off the Wisconsin win, and the definition of momentum is to keep it going, and I think it kind of stopped right in its tracks today in the Bronx, and with the Trump speech about New York values," Krauthammer said. He called Cruz's "New York values" dig "a gaffe with a long fuse" and a "huge mistake," adding "there is no way around that gaffe."
Kelly then turned to the likely contested Republican convention, asking Krauthammer about Trump's odds. Krauthammer, not a Trump fan, said that Trump would probably have to win the nomination on the first ballot, but that he actually still has a "reasonable chance to win on he first ballot." If he doesn't, and Cruz is trailing him by around 200 delegates, Cruz has a "claim to legitimacy," Krauthammer said. Kelly then asked him about the polls showing Hillary Clinton leading both candidates in the general election, and you can watch below. Peter Weber
