Lindsey Graham, Donald Trump have 'pleasant' conversation about national security
Is one of Donald Trump's biggest detractors now his biggest fan?
No, but Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) did say on Thursday he had a "cordial, pleasant phone conversation" with the presumptive Republican nominee on Wednesday. The pair spoke for 15 minutes and discussed national security issues, Graham said, and he gave Trump his "assessment about where we stand in the fight against [the Islamic State] and the long-term danger posed by the Iranian nuclear deal. He asked good questions."
Graham has long said he will never endorse his former rival (last week, he said Trump isn't a "reliable Republican conservative") and he clarified that just because they spoke, he hasn't changed his mind. "My position remains the same regarding both candidates running for president," he said. "I will do what I can in the Senate to help the next president. The next president will inherit a mess."
