Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert to report to prison next month
Dennis Hastert was ordered by a federal judge Thursday to report to prison on June 22 for violating federal banking laws while paying hush money to cover up past sexual abuse of high school wrestlers he coached. The order, given by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas M. Durkin, did not specify where Hastert will serve his sentence.
In April, the former House Speaker was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charges. Hastert was also ordered to participate in a sex offender treatment program and fined $250,000 for his crimes. At the April hearing, Durkin called Hastert a "serial child molester." Hastert has apologized for "mistreating some of my athletes," saying, "What I did was wrong, and I regret it."
