5 soldiers dead, 4 missing after vehicle overturns at Fort Hood

Five soldiers are dead and four are missing after the tactical vehicle they were in overturned Thursday morning at a low water crossing, Fort Hood announced Thursday evening.

Three soldiers were rescued from the water near the vehicle, and they are in stable condition. In a press release, Fort Hood said three bodies were recovered from the water downstream from the vehicle. The missing soldiers are from the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division. Heavy rains continue across Texas, and Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has declared a state of disaster in 31 counties.
