Stephen Colbert highlights the sole ray of sunshine in Donald Trump's overcast week
"It was a rough week for Donald Trump," Stephen Colbert said on Thursday's Late Show. "Trump was ridden hard and put away wet this week, and it looks like all the controversies are beginning to take their toll." His campaign staff is reportedly "suicidal" and campaign manager Paul Manafort is allegedly checked out, Colbert added, though "of course, Trump denies that anything is wrong." Still, Manafort "may have finally cracked" on CBS Thursday morning, with a verbal slip about endorsing Paul Ryan for president.
"But there is good news out of the Trump campaign — this is true," Colbert said: "Trump and his party raised $82 million last month, much of it from small donations." And these donors "can feel good knowing that every dollar will help Donald Trump reach his ultimate goal, attack ads against Paul Ryan." Trump's fundraising secret, it seems, is not allowing subscribers to cancel their plans, he added. "Supporting Trump is like joining a gym — only it's democracy that isn't working out." Watch below.
