Even Bernie Sanders needs a place to cool off. In the days after the senator officially endorsed Hillary Clinton — and surrendered his own presidential dreams — Sanders and his wife, Jane, purchased a nearly $600,000 four-bedroom beachfront home on the Champlain Islands in Vermont.
"We've traveled up to the islands many times over the years — almost always on day trips," Jane Sanders told Seven Days. "My family had a lake home in Maine since 1900, but we hadn't had the time to go there in recent years — especially since my parents passed away. We finally let go of it and that enabled us to buy a place in the islands — something I've always hoped for. "
The home will be seasonal for the Sanders, who also have a house in Burlington's New North End as well as a row house on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
