Michael Phelps wins 22nd Olympic gold medal

In a stunning win, Michael Phelps took home the gold in the 200m individual medley Thursday in Rio, bringing his total number of Olympic gold medals to 22.

He finished in 1:54.66, touching the wall nearly two seconds ahead of silver medalist Kosuke Hagino of Japan. Phelps has won the event at four consecutive Olympics, and this is his fourth gold medal from the Rio Games. Ryan Lochte, who holds the world record in the event, placed fifth. Phelps now has 26 total Olympic medals.
