In June, Americans guzzled more gas than ever before. The Energy Information Administration's latest tally revealed that, in June, drivers used "more than 405 million gallons of gas a day" — the highest rate of consumption since record-keeping began in 1946, NPR reported.

That spike in consumption mostly has to do with the drop in gas prices, experts said. For instance, this Labor Day weekend, gas prices are 40 percent lower than they were just two summers ago. And while the tallies are only completed through June, experts are already predicting this entire year will be a record-setter in terms of gas consumption due to low prices.
